When I was young
When I was young, and lively and bold
I wondered what I would be like when I was old
Whether I would be one of those crazy old ladies with 17 cats,
Or wore bright yellow frocks, with frilly pink hats?
Would I call people young hoodlums, and hit them with my
handbag,
Or give them a penny and say ‘don’t spend it all at once, you little
toe-rag’?
Would I grumble and groan when countdown was cancelled,
Or ask my granddaughter which ‘rusted’ member she fancied?
Would I eat raw cabbage and say ‘in my day…’
Or would I get the days mixed up and go to church on a Friday?
But now I know that when I get there
I’ll do all these on purpose, so you’d better beware!
